RHR again not importing (for recovery score only?)

After having issues with bevel’s RHR calculation (first two screenshots below), I switched the calculation method to Apple Health. Now, (had this problem before) RHR isn’t showing up again. No recovery score and doesn’t show up in key metrics, but it does show in biology tab (three last screenshots.) I’ve checked my RHR data sources, which look in order, deleted and reinstalled, and cleared and reloaded my cache.

Data for Recovery not showing when method is Apple Health
Flavio Bittencourt
Hey there,
Seems that I am not able to retrieve the data when the source selected in settings is Apple Health, even though I have plenty of data available for Resting HR. Is is something known?
Thank you, amazing app!

Resting Heart Rate data missing
Irina Haller
Data from resting heart rate is missing in bevel, although it‘s in Apple Health and Bevel has permission to read from Apple Health. Some days data is there, some not.

No resting heart rate data

Although I wear my watch to sleep every night and bevel has access to all the correct data, my recovery score won’t calculate because it says it doesn’t have access to my heart rate data. This is when I have the rhr method set to Apple. It works fine if I set the rhr method to Bevel.

Resting heart rate not showing

My Apple Watch is tracking resting heart rate (wore it to sleep + tracked all night) however it’s not showing in the app but is available as data in the Health app. See screenshot

Hi Talin, Can you please send a screenshot of what your Calculations in Bevel look like? Please go to Bevel -> Profile -> Customization -> Calculations. Screenshot this view for me.

Randell see screenshot here

Talin: Hi, It seems you are using "Apple Health" and "Sleep + Mindfulness" method for your RHR
Please note that Apple Health writes its RHR data throughout the day so for this setup to work you have to change your "Use RHR From" to "Entire Day"
T
Talin
Randell that did not resolve the issue. It only gets resolved when I change to “Bevel” as a source. Not sure what the difference is in RHR between apple vs bevel
Randell
Talin: Are you saying that the setup
RHR Method: Apple Health
Use RHR From: Entire Day
Doesn't work for you? Can you please send a screenshot of your RHR data in Apple Health? Go to Apple Health -> Resting Heart Rate -> Scroll down to Show all Data. Screenshot this view for me.
Also, is this your intended RHR calculation setup?
By default, Bevel calculates RHR using your heart rate data during sleep (Entire Sleep default setup) and Apple Health uses its own algorithm to calculate RHR and may log it at random times throughout the day which is why the correct setup should be "Entire Day" when you are using Apple Health's RHR calculation.
T
Talin
Randell yes the Apple Health setup doesn’t help or show. This is all the data sources from the Apple Health when I show all.
I’d prefer it to be the apple health version in the app but that’s not working

Talin
I think I know what the problem is. For hrv + rhr methods, it needs to be one or the other (apple vs bevel method) but not both. For hrv I had the bevel method but for rhr I had apple. Let me know if you agree with this method
Grey
Talin: I'm jumping in for Randell here. It should work even if you have one on Bevel method and the other on Apple Health method.
Are you saying that it doesn't work like that? Just to be clear, when you use Apple Health method, your use RHR from method should be set to "Entire day". It should look exactly like this screenshot.
T
Talin
Grey that’s how I have it. It’s still not working (it was at one point when BOTH apple health was selected… but now it doesn’t anymore)
Still not working despite apple health collecting RHR
Grey
Talin: Can you go to Apple Health > RHR > Show All Data > Tap on today (red square in screenshot attached) and screenshot this view for me?
I want to see what writes data to your RHR.
Grey
Hey Talin, I want to follow up on this.
T
Talin
Grey it's hit or miss. There's a major lag time (sometimes by a day) for when RHR is pulling - here's a screenshot that shows RHR is writing effectively in Apple Health
Grey
Talin: Can you tap into the days? See my screenshot below.
I want to see the list of when your RHR is written.
Grey
Hi Talin, I want to follow up on this.

Talin
Grey its been resolved - now it’s showing. We can close
Grey
Talin: Thanks. Do you know what was the issue? Or how did you fix it?

Hi Jonathan Mousley, Let me help you with this.
When using Apple Health's RHR Method you have to change the "Use RHR From" to "Entire Day" as well. The reason for this is because Apple Health writes its RHR Data Randomly throughout the day.
Jonathan Mousley
Randell thanks for the reply. So to clarify, bevel’s method will only use sleep RHR right?
Randell
Jonathan Mousley Yes, If you are wearing your watch to sleep the default and recommended setup for Bevel’s RHR calculation is “Entire Sleep”.
See screenshot below for the default setup
Let me close this ticket for you. Feel free to comment back in if you have further questions! Thanks!

Hi Irina Haller let me try and help you with this.
Can you send a screenshot of what your calculations in Bevel look like? Bevel -> Profile -> Customization -> Calculations. Screenshot this view for me
Irina Haller
Randell
Randell
Irina Haller I see.
For this setup where you use the RHR method from Apple Health, you have to change the “Use RHR From:” as well to “Entire Day”
the reason for this is that Apple Health writes its RHR data randomly throughout the day.
If possible, I’d like to ask — Is there any reason why you are using Apple Health’s method for RHR?
Irina Haller
Randell Nah, no special reason for that. Don‘t remember changing it intentionally :-)
I now changed the settings to.. see screenshot. Are these the recommended/standard settings?
Randell
Irina Haller Yes, that is the default and recommended setup if you use Bevel’s calculation
Thanks for confirming!
Irina Haller
Randell Okay, thanks for your help. Everything‘s functioning properly now :-)
Randell
Irina Haller: Happy to help! I will close this ticket now. Thanks!

Hi Flavio Bittencourt, let me help you with this.
I want to verify something first, Can you please send a screenshot of what your Calculation settings in Bevel look like? Go to Bevel -> Profile -> Customization -> Calculation.
Flavio Bittencourt
Randell sure, here you have it :)
If I switch from Apple Health to Bevel, I see data for Recovery
Randell
Flavio Bittencourt: I see now. For this to work you need to change the Use RHR From: "Entire Sleep" to "Entire Day"
Apple Health writes its RHR data randomly throughout the day which is why "Entire Day" is the correct setting for this.
Flavio Bittencourt
Randell I see, now I confirm the data is correctly visible 🙌 thanks for the clarification
Randell
Flavio Bittencourt: Glad to help! We will make this clearer on the app to avoid confusion. I will close this ticket now.
