Improvements for logging "Naps/Sleep" within the app
under review

When I try to add sleep manually, the app only allows me to set the start time from today at 00:00. This means that if I went to sleep earlier, for example at 9:00 PM, I can’t add it.
Additionally, I often have problems when I forget to wear my Watch or put it on later. If I try to add a sleep period manually to cover the missing data, the app does not let me. Sometimes, I add the sleep period, but it disappears right after.
I have also tried modifying my sleep data directly from the Apple Health app, but the changes do not appear or update in Bevel.

Adding via apple health fixes it

Can’t add nap times

When adding nap times it successfully displays in the insights page for a second and then disappears. Feels like an optimistic update that didn't actually successfully write. Do I need to give some permissions that I didn’t?

Randell I would NEVER have guessed "the app only allows entries for the current day's log", since I can select a prior day, touch the + button, and get the time-selection wheels.
It's also a functional problem with being able to fix sleep auto-detection. For example, two nights ago I slept from 10 PM to 12 AM, was up for a few minutes, and slept until morning. For whatever reason, the auto-detected sleep began at 12:10 AM. I found this ticket after trying in frustration to add the missing two hours manually and being completely unable to do it from either the current-day or prior-day screen, but with no feedback as to why it wasn't working.
At the very least I would consider the lack of feedback and the apparent ability to edit prior days when that is not actually possible as UI/UX bugs. I appreciate from your response below that I can use Apple Health to add manual sleep, and I'm sure there are reasons why the Bevel dev team made the choice to only allow in-app editing since midnight of the previous night. That said, it's kind of annoying in an otherwise beautiful and well-functioning app that the answer to what seems like a low-hanging missing/broken function is to go outside the app. For what it's worth (n=1), frustration around sleep detection and manual editing is basically the only reason I am hesitating to renew my paid subscription to the app.

Hi Victor CP, Can you please go to Bevel -> Profile -> Customization -> Calculation, scroll down to the bottom, is your “Merge manual sleep” toggled ON?
When you turn on merge manual sleep, Bevel will merge sleep segments written by Apple Health to your primary sleep. For example, if your watch ended the sleep session early at 6 AM but you slept until 7 AM, you can fix this by manually adding an "Asleep" segment to Apple Health. With this toggle turned on, Bevel will merge that into the segments written by Apple Watch.
Also, Please note that the app only allows entries for the current day's log. Can you please confirm if you are trying to add it via today's view in Bevel? If that is the case, since you're trying to add a 9:00 PM entry from yesterday while logged into today's view, Bevel treats 9:00 PM as today, which is why it won't allow it.

This is happening to me as well.

Tim Laskey: Hi, Can you please check if the nap time you are adding is within 30 minutes with any of your sleep session.
by default, Bevel will merge sleep sessions within 30 minutes of each other into the same session.

Randell hi, it still won’t add it. It’s not within 30 minutes of my sleep session. The only this I can notice is that I’m trying to add it in my target sleep time because I woke up before it had ended for a while before I went back to bed? Thanks
Randell
Tim Laskey: Can you check in Apple Health if the nap that you have added in Bevel is logged there? You can go to Apple Health -> Sleep -> Scroll down to "show all data", tap it and then you should be able to check the raw data there.
T
Tim Laskey
Randell Yes it has logged there but not in the app it had logged all the times I had tried to enter it.
Randell
Tim Laskey: Can you please send a screenshot of your sleep graph in Bevel? Also, please include the raw sleep data logs from Apple Health so we can check. Thanks!

Randell
Tim Laskey: Looking at this screenshot it seems like you were able to log the "nap". Can you please clarify?
T
Tim Laskey
Randell hi if you look the 10:40 am nap wouldn’t add it’s logged in the raw data but would only show up in the app for a second then disappear.
Randell
Tim Laskey: Are all these logs from Bevel? If it is, can you try to remove it and re-add the 10:40 - 12:00
T
Tim Laskey
Randell it’s just done the same again showed for a second then disappeared
Randell
Tim Laskey Hm, can you send a screenshot of the sleep graph view in Apple Health for that day?

Same again this morning got back to sleep it had logged this in the raw data. I had also tried to add it as a nap which has logged in the raw date but neither are showing in the app. Thanks
Randell
Tim Laskey If I got this right, your Sleep ended at 4:41 and you are trying to add a nap at 4:45? Can you please confirm that?
T
Tim Laskey
Randell I got back to sleep and that’s been logged in the raw data yes. But I tried to add the nap 30 mins later than this time also shows in raw data but neither are showing in the app. I know you said it merges them if within 30 mins. So that’s why tried to add the nap later than that and they still don’t show in the app.
T
Tim Laskey
Randell Both showing there.
Randell
Tim Laskey Can you try removing both and then add a nap log at 5:10 and see if it will show in the Sleep activities. I’d like to verify if it is working as intended.
As I have mentioned above if the nap time you are adding is within 30 minutes with any of your sleep session by default, Bevel will merge sleep sessions within 30 minutes of each other into the same session.
T
Tim Laskey
Randell It showed for a second then went again in the app but shows in the data.
T
Tim Laskey
Randell it doesn’t merge them in the app though it does in the data but it isn’t transferring over to the app
Randell
Tim Laskey Gotcha, if it is okay, can I have someone from the team check in on this for you?
Please give us a bit of time since it is already nighttime, someone will jump in to clarify things. Will that be fine?
T
Tim Laskey
Randell Yes that’s fine thanks
Randell
Tim Laskey Thank you so much. We will get back to you asap.
Randell
Tim Laskey: Hi Tim,
Can you go to Apple Health -> Sleep -> Sleep Chart, tap the last sleep stage, and check the end time of your sleep? (Please tap the last sleep stage as shown in my attached screenshot.)
Then, go to Bevel -> Sleep -> Primary Sleep and send a screenshot of your Sleep Chart as well.
I’ve attached a reference screenshot for what I’m asking. Please send yours too, I’d like to comfirm the end times of both.

Randell hi
T
Tim Laskey
This is the nap I tried to add following that sleep. It’s in the data still but won’t show on the app.
Randell
Tim Laskey: Can you please confirm when does your Primary sleep ends?
T
Tim Laskey
Randell4.45 but then I’ve tried to add the rest as a nap because got back to sleep and the nap won’t add. And it doesn’t merge getting back to sleep.
Randell
Tim Laskey: Instead of adding it from the Bevel app, can you try adding it in Apple Health directly? since this is a sleep data that is considered to be part of your main sleep?
Randell
Hi Jason Wang, Can you go to Apple Health -> Sleep -> Scroll down to show all data, tap it, and screenshot the view for me? Send a screenshot of your Primary sleep graph as well.
Please note that by default, Bevel will merge sleep sessions within 30 minutes of each other into the same session. So please check if the nap time you are adding is within 30 minutes with any of your sleep session.
