Multiple AI Coach Personalities/Coaching Styles
in progress
Chris Johnson
It would be a great addition to implement different "coaching styles" to the Bevel AI. The end user can select the "coaching style" that best fits their motivation. The end user might change their selection as the user achieves or does not achieve their goals.
Here are some examples of different types of fitness coaching styles that might fit with helping someone on their wellness journey:
The Educator
Style: Logical, detailed, and focused on why things work.
Tactics: Teaches form, anatomy, nutrition, recovery science.
Motivation: Knowledge = empowerment. You stick with it because you understand the process.
Typical phrase: “Let’s talk about how your glutes activate here.”
The Drill Sergeant
Style: Intense, commanding, and no-excuses.
Tactics: Uses discipline, time pressure, and strong tone.
Motivation: You’re driven by challenge and external push.
Typical phrase: “You’re not tired, you’re just getting started!”
The Cheerleader
Style: High energy, positive reinforcement, emotional hype.
Tactics: Constant encouragement, high-fives, “you got this!” vibes.
Motivation: You feel good, so you keep going.
Typical phrase: “Look at you go! You crushed that set!”
The Mindful Mentor
Style: Calm, centered, and holistic.
Tactics: Connects movement to emotion and mindfulness.
Motivation: You find meaning in self-care and growth.
Typical phrase: “Breathe through the discomfort; this is where growth begins.”
The Strategist
Style: Goal-oriented, metrics-driven, and organized.
Tactics: Breaks goals into micro-targets, tracks progress obsessively.
Motivation: You’re inspired by visible progress and structure.
Typical phrase: “We’re down 2% body fat this phase, let’s hit 5% next.”
The Companion
Style: Supportive, relatable, and empathetic.
Tactics: Builds strong rapport, celebrates small wins, checks in emotionally.
Motivation: Accountability through connection.
Typical phrase: “Hey, how’s your stress level today? Let’s adjust if needed.”
The Performer
Style: Entertaining, charismatic, and larger-than-life.
Tactics: Humor, storytelling, playlists, and energy to keep things fun.
Motivation: You forget you’re working out because you’re having fun.
Typical phrase: “This next round’s brought to you by your favorite breakup song!”
The Psychologist
Style: Reflective, introspective, and mentally strategic.
Tactics: Reframes negative thoughts, explores mindset and habits.
Motivation: You learn to master yourself, not just your muscles.
Typical phrase: “Why do you think you avoid this exercise? Let’s unpack that.”

Provide a sliding scale for AI Prompt communication

When I use the app instead of manually adding prompts (power user). Can we just have a sliding scales for:
Communication style:
Supportive - frank

This would be a great addition. Personalities like those from the Zing fitness app would be awesome!

Thank you for the suggestions Chris Johnson! Have you tried changing the tone & Detail level of Bevel Intelligence in Settings and/or told it directly to adopt one of these coaching styles? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
Chris Johnson
Amanda I'm happy to try changing the tone and detail level of Bevel Intelligence, but I'm not seeing where to do that in Settings. When asking BI about it and different personas, it responded with it's designed to be a supportive teammate with a bit of dry humor and empathy.
I did ask BI to adopt the persona of "The Companion" and it added it as a Core Memory and then asked it to give me some coaching based on that and it did start to turn towards the description of The Companion.
I think making these types of interactions more obvious for users would help raise the engagement of the functionality.
BI might also check in on a designated day of the week to ask if the user liked the coaching they received for the week and if they feel like anything might need to change or be adjusted in the way it is giving feedback.
Amanda
Chris Johnson: Thank you for sharing! I agree, making those interactions more obvious would be more useful.
You can change the Tone and Detail if you click into Ask Bevel > Top right corner History > Top right Settings. This is also where you can access your memories.

Amanda Got it and thanks.
Just from a UX perspective, I would suggest that the functionality to adjust how the AI works has a flow that is available through Settings > Customization > Bevel Intelligence because the current flow is not super intuitive.
Maybe the Feature Request would be to have additional steps in the slider with different coaching style presets.
Amanda
Chris Johnson: Makes sense, thanks! We will be adding an improved onboarding flow for Bevel Intelligence soon.
