Setting for default unit for food logging
Simon Rejzek
Manually picking grams every time I log food is annoying. Just let us set a default unit so we don’t have to switch units all the time. We should also get a hint for how many grams is a serving, etc.

Simon Gilks, Kevin, pixel, I'd love to further understand your ideal flow when logging recipes. For example, are you weighing individual ingredients first, then also weighing the total amount? The more detail the better. Are there apps that you currently use that you enjoy the flow of? Thank you!

Amanda Sure - Cronometer. You enter all the ingredients, with weights, then you enter a "Cooked Weight" at the end. Then you can enter how much you ate, so like 100 grams and it will calculate the nutrition based off the cooked weight

Amanda Yes, same as Kevin, I use a scale in grams to weigh each ingredient. So like, 200 g of zucchini, etc. Then i have a bowl of like 900 g of food, but actually when it cooks, it's only like 700 g after water and oil evaporate.
then if i have 1 serving, it's actually one serving from 700 g and not 1 serving of 900 g. otherwise when i weigh one serving, it will seem like i'm eating less of the total grams in the recipe.
let's say it thinks a serving is 50 g but a cooked serving is 25 g, then i will seem to have never eaten half the entire recipe, but i actually ate the whole dish.

Amanda another example, say i have a batter for pancakes and it weighs 800, but only 760 is used because i can't scrape all the batter off the sides, so it's important to consider that the ingredients used initially isn't the same as what gets cooked.

Recipe "original" weight and "cooked" weight

A recipe may contain water or oils that eventually evaporate that shouldn't be considered in the final nutrition facts. Something like chicken breast or certain vegetables have a different nutrition value when cooked depending on how long and well it was cooked for. I would like to be able to set the cooked weight in grams and have the nutrition facts adjust automatically for cooked ingredients. I can only measure raw ingredients separately, once the food is mixed together when cooking, I couldn't be able to measure the cooked ingredients easily.

Hi Kevin, great point. We will add this to the roadmap!

Option to set default food measurement to grams

When I create a recipe, almost everything I use is measured in grams on a scale. I rarely use volume measurements. It is tedious to end up with a bunch of different cups and spoons that need to be washed.
This is a related issue: some foods only have volume measurements on their nutrition facts, I want to be able to copy all the nutrition info without having to create a "new food" so that I can add in how many grams are in a "cup" for example.
This is especially important to know the final weight of a dish.

100% agree with this. In NutraCheck I weight the total output, as you say 1000g and then I serve myself 100g, or 200g or whatever it might be.
