Possible HRV Caching issue?
waiting for internal input
Greg Newman
I have my calculations for HRV set to entire sleep + mindfulness. If I clear my cache and rebuild I get results that are in line with my Garmin data (23.6). I quit the app and reopen it and I get a lower number (19.5) until I clear the cache again then it's back where it is in alignment with Garmin (23.6).
Ignore that RHR, something has been wrong with my AWU lately where it's reporting weird values or none at all until the evening.

Grey – Any change this bug can get some attention? It's a known issue that is nine months old. :(

Update to v2.2 caused old values to flatline
Quinn Comendant
After updating to version 2.2 last week, old values for
Resting HR
and Resting HVR
appear flat. Other metrics retain their previous wide range of values. Screenshots below should illustrate this. I've tried Clear cache & reload all data
several times, but it hasn't changed anything.Randell
Hi Quinn Comendant, thanks for reporting this!
Can you please confirm your calculation setup in Bevel? are you on the default setup?
Quinn Comendant
Hi Randell,
I'm not sure what the default set up is (I've been using Bevel since the early beta in 2023; perhaps the default is different now?). I use “Entire sleep + mindfulness” for HRV and RHR. I've attached screenshots below.
Notice the screenshot of my mindfulness session shows some gaps. That should actually be reflected in the HVR and RHR because mindfulness session readings are usually different than overnight readings.
Also notice that my HRV and RHR charts are different now than the screenshots I uploaded a few days ago. For example, the HRV screenshot from a few days ago show a taller spike on the HRV that is no longer visible on today's HRV chart. How can that be possible?
Randell
Quinn Comendant: Hi, Thanks for the screenshots and updated info.
Yes, I do remember you as one of the OG Beta testers back then! :)
We're currently aware of an issue affecting the entire Sleep + Mindfulness setup.
Could you please try clearing the cache and reloading all data to see if that does anything with your data?
Quinn Comendant
Randell I've tried
Clear cache & reload all data
several times, but it hasn't changed anything. But just now, I switched
Use HRV from
and Use RHR from
== Mindfulness only
and reloaded data – and now I see the data I expect to see. So, until this bug is fixed, I'll just try to be more consistent with my mindfulness sessions. If you release a version with a patch for this issue, please let me know and I will test
Entire sleep + mindfulness
again. 🫶Randell

HRV graph shows incorrect behavior
B
Bo
I’m currently trying the HRV setting “entire sleeP & mindfulness” in RMSSD mode. However, I see some inconsistent and incorrect behavior in how the graph shows up. It corrects itself after I clear cache & reload all data, but after a few hours it shows the incorrect graph again. Image 1 is how it should look, image 2 is the faulty one. What’s happening here?

RHR and HRV data incorrect/sync strangely
clotzo
Everything went perfectly smooth until I switched the settings for the HRV measuring from Bevel to Apple Health as I wanted to see the difference (HRV by Apple way higher than with Bevel and Bevel often doesn't include the HRV results of my mindfulness session directly after waking up - Athlytic does). I switched back to RMSSD measuring by Bevel right after and since then the whole data is broken.
Screenshots 1-3 show the results that Bevel shows me in the morning and they are just wrong (my RHR for example was in the last month always around 48 and at times even at 44, not higher as the app now claims) and the HRV is screwed as well as you can see. When I clear the cache (screenshots 4-6), the historical data seems to stay the same but the most recent measurements adjust and after refreshing again it always goes back to the strange data from 1-3. It's quite frustrating as I already tracked many months in detail and the app now seems broken... It says I have a recovery of 52% which would under normal conditions probably be an 80% or something like that. I don't know what to do. Thanks for any help!
clotzo
I can't remember what was setup in the beginning but I assume it's the default settings. And everything went perfectly until I shortly switched.
Randell
clotzo: Bevel's default setup is "Bevel (RMSSD) + Entire Sleep" only. Can you please try changing to that for both RHR and HRV?
clotzo
Randell I changed it to that and the RHR looks correct now. The HRV is very low now and I am not sure if it's the best way to measure the HRV like this as the Apple Watch randomly measures the HRV during the night and I usually made a 1 min. mindfulness session to get an HRV score always from the exact same moment in my sleep cycle right after waking up.
clotzo
Randell Here you can see a bug (I guess it's a bug) that when I clear the cache, the data first looks good, but after refreshing, it seems broken.
(I changed back to sleep + mindful session just to showcase)
Randell
clotzo: Thanks for the screen recording!
We are aware of the issue with the Sleep + Mindfulness setup, and we already have a ticket open for it here: https://feedback.bevel.health/bug-reports/p/possible-hrv-caching-issue.
The team does plan to address this, but since we’re currently focused on the major summer release coming this September, it may take some time before we circle back to it.
For now, I’d suggest sticking with the default setup (Entire Sleep) only.
Let me merge this ticket for you to that one.
Randell
Hi clotzo, Can you please share a screenshot of what your Calculation setup looks like right now? Is it the default calculation setup for Bevel?

Hello, I have this same problem! Randell do you need anything from me to assess the issue? Thanks
Randell
Carlos pc: Do you have the same setup on your calculations like the OP?
HRV: Bevel + Entire Sleep & Mindfulness
C
Carlos pc
Randell exactly the same. Entire sleep + mindfulness for hrv. After my morning mindfulness session I have to clear cache and reload data to update the hrv, and then again every time I reopen the app.
Randell
Hi Bo, Thanks for reporting this. We are still looking into this issue. For now, I will leave this ticket under review to give you updates regarding this.
Is it possible for you to stick to the default calculation setup for now?
B
Bo
Hi Randell, yeah I could do that, or clear the cache every time it happens until the issue is resolved.
While we’re at the matter of the subject, I’ve been wondering what the ratio is you use to calculate ‘Entire Sleep & Mindfulness’. Does it use the average of entire sleep and the Mindfulness reading 50:50?
Randell
Bo: Thanks!
For your other question, It takes the average of all the measurements taken during sleep and mindfulness.
